Obama: Energy Independence Involves Tough Transition From Oil Imports

**Opinion**

This promise of energy independence has been broken time and time again from politicians on both sides of the fence. If the president of the US can't do much, who can!? I remember during his campaign him claiming that we would move forward with energy independence. Whatever happened to that? There should have been a bailout for the environment, in which, would've provided jobs and a new direction for the economy. Instead, we bailed out the people that don't really need it. Now, Obama is trying to justify why there won't be change - well, I'm not impressed!

Obama said he wants to move toward "a future where America is less dependent on foreign oil, more reliant on clean energy produced by workers like you."

How many times have we heard the above or something similar that has been re-written by political writers/advisors? On top of that, just because something isn't easy, doesn't mean that it is not do-able. Moreover, there is a horrible trend that seems to repeat itself in the US. This trend(s) is mainstream adoption of a new development and conditioning of such within the public. In example, cell-phones. The masses were allowed to run free with them and then afterwards came regulation, i.e., the driving while using cell-phone bill. The same applies to tobacco use. Now, we have it with vehicles - they promoted big vehicles (many times gas guzzlers) much of the mainstream bought into it (with incentives and marketing - the same as the past) and now they turn around and tell you it's your fault for doing such. Lastly, I wouldn't own a huge vehicle that used a lot of oil, but people are entitled to their choice of vehicle and shouldn't be ridiculed for it.
