Cash-strapped New York City Housing Authority will get a financial boost to the tune of $100 million, intended to make some much-needed energy-efficient building improvements.

The initiative, funded primarily by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), is part of Mayor de Blasio's plan to cut the city's greenhouse emissions by 80 percent by the year 2050. The cash influx is expected to go towards upgrading boiler and heating systems, improving lighting and installing solar panels at nearly 300 NYCHA developments.
