Spain's Unauthorized Protest Proposal Is Unduly Harsh

The protesters, who were outraged about the government’s cutbacks on public services, called for a genuine social democracy in the European country.

They are also concerned about a new legislation, which they say infringes on their rights. The new Public Safety Law draft proposes heavy fines of up to 600,000 euros for activists who participate in unauthorized protests.

The bill must be approved by parliament where the ruling party has an absolute majority.
