The Uruguayan Senate passed legislation on Wednesday that would legalize abortion in the tiny South American nation.
In a 17-14 vote, senators approved a bill that allows women to have
an abortion during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. The legislation
cleared the Lower House of Congress in September.
President José Mujica is widely expected to sign the bill into law.
