The San Francisco 49ers and Mayor Ed Lee have been recently working on a bid to bring the Super Bowl to the Bay Area according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

The NFL is expected to make an announcement on Monday as to whether San Francisco will be considered as the host city for what is undoubtedly the country's most popular sporting event.

It is believed that the bid is being made either for either Super Bowl LI (2016) or Super Bowl LII (2017). Though the actual game would likely be played at the 49ers new $1.2 billion stadium in Santa Clara after it reaches completion, the city of San Francisco would still be the official host city and the site of most of the pregame activities leading up to the main event.
