The wonder that is San Francisco comes at a price.
There's
only so much space on this 47-square-mile, seismically risky peninsula
tip, and that means housing is among the most expensive in the country
and protracted land-use fights have become a staple of
political discourse.
Proposition C on the Nov. 6 ballot is Mayor Ed Lee's effort to start changing that.
Prop.
C's main thrust is to expand housing options by creating a dedicated
funding stream for affordable housing and down payment assistance for
middle-income earners. It would loosen the city's affordable-housing
requirements for developers to entice market-rate production and ease
demand on the housing supply.
