Inflation has begun to intensify in the Bay Area, according to a report released Tuesday of consumer prices in the San Jose, Oakland and San Francisco regions.
That annual pace for inflation was greater than the yearly gains in consumer prices for the nine-county region during the two previous surveys for Bay Area inflation.
Over the one-year period that ended in June, inflation rose by 2.6 percent. During the 12 months that ended in April, consumer prices rose 2.1 percent.
The survey also determined that gasoline prices have jumped this year, a major factor behind the rise of inflation.
For the first nine months of 2012, the price of unleaded regular gasoline rose 9.7 percent, the federal agency reported.
