The Democratic governor finds himself in the midst of a battle as he tries to persuade voters to pass Proposition 30, a $6 billion tax increase on the November ballot.

Brown’s initiative to boost the statewide sales tax by a quarter-cent and income taxes for those earning $250,000 a year or more is in jeopardy after being hit hard by money from a wealthy brother and sister with politically polar views.

The slugfest is bad news for Brown’s initiative and Proposition 38, a broadly based income tax increase proposal by attorney Molly Munger that would go directly to school districts.
