Governor races remain tight

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0912/81783.html?hp=l9

Montana now has the closest gubernatorial contest heading into the final month of the campaign.

In POLITICO’s second-to-last review of the most competitive gubernatorial races, the open seat fight to replace term-limited Democrat Brian Schweitzer vaults to the top, with battles in Washington and New Hampshire remaining fiercely contested.

That means whichever party wins at least two of the three of those top-tier races can claim a national victory this cycle.

Further down the list, Republicans look in good shape to pick up the North Carolina governor’s mansion and Democrats are primed to defend Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin in West Virginia.
