Governor Jerry Brown has signed into law two bills that affect Bay Area residents.
One regulates the use of red-light cameras at intersections statewide.
Authored by State Senator Joe Simitian of Palo Alto, this bill
specifically prohibits the use of red-light cameras solely to raise
revenue for local governments.
It requires that camera locations be based solely on safety considerations.
It also requires adequate signs to notify drivers that the cameras
are in use and makes it easier for wrongfully-ticketed drivers to get
that ticket cleared.
