Robert Reich reacts to the jobs report: ‘Mr. President, you’ve got to be the initiator now’ (VIDEO)
“Viewpoint” host Eliot Spitzer and Robert Reich, professor at UC Berkeley’s Goldman School of Public Policy and former U.S. labor secretary, evaluate what lower-than-expected May jobs numbers mean for the U.S. economy and the 2012 presidential election. Reich offers advice to President Obama on how to counteract the downward trend, stressing that the president must take action without worrying about Republican support. “The Republicans will say, ‘Well, we need more tax cuts for the rich who are the job creators.’ Baloney! The rich are already taking home more than they’ve ever taken in terms of the percentage of the American economy. We know nothing trickles down,” Reich declares.
