Multiple Bay Area hospitals are among several others statewide that will face administrative penalties and fines totaling $825,000 due to noncompliance with licensing requirements necessary to ensure the safety of patients.
The California Department of Public Health announced Friday that Chinese Hospital and Kaiser Foundation Hospital in San Francisco as well as Kaiser Foundation Hospital-Oakland/Richmond were among 13 hospitals statewide to be assessed the penalties.
Chinese Hospital will be penalized $50,000 in its first administrative penalty for failure to implement its established policies and procedures for feeding tube insertion.
Meanwhile Kaiser Foundation Hospitals in San Francisco and Oakland/Richmond will face a $75,000 fine each in their second administrative penalties. Health officials say the San Francisco facility is being fined for failing to follow surgical policies and procedures resulting in a patient having to undergo another surgery to remove a foreign object. The Oakland facility's fine stems from failure to follow established policies and procedures relating to their cardiac paging system.
