Despite a campaign-style push this week by President Barack Obama, the Senate on Thursday scuttled pared-back jobs legislation aimed at helping state and local governments avoid layoffs of teachers and firefighters.
"For the second time in two weeks, every single Republican in the United States Senate has chosen to obstruct a bill that would create jobs and get our economy going again," Obama said in a statement after the vote. "Every American deserves an explanation as to why Republicans refuse to step up to the plate and do what's necessary to create jobs and grow the economy right now."
"We cannot afford to be bailing out local governments, and we can't afford stimulus 2.0," countered Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla.
**Opinion**
Democrats control the Senate but couldn't get this to pass...SMH! Would this same resistance occur if we had a Republican as the U.S. President?! Politicians are put in place to represent the interests of those who elected them. Again and again, they have proven that this is not their main objective. Instead, their main objective is to not allow the president to gain a second term. This is apparent, even when going against the interests of the voters who voted for them. In other words, they will do anything in their attempts of removing Obama from the presidency even if it isn't in the interest of voters who align themselves with the Republican or Conservative Parties.
Thereby, bringing about my next question: Why do people vote Republican when it doesn't help them, but instead, hurts them?!? I've pondered this question for some time, and not just with this administration. However, with this administration, it appears to happen more often and makes less and less sense. Which, brings upon my next question: Are Republican voters not aware, educated, and informed enough to make an educated vote!?! Or, are there other reasons for voting people into office that don't properly represent their ideologies? As evidenced, both seem incredibly possible. Lastly, if Bush's tax cuts only apply to a small percentage of Republican voters (due to their income bracket), then why would a person that doesn't fit into this category support such? That is just one huge example of many, that I view as Republican voters doing an injustice to themselves.
