Global governments 'must get tough on obesity'

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-14669203

Tougher action - including taxing junk food - is needed by all governments if the obesity crisis is going to be tackled, experts say.

**Opinion**

I'm not sure if taxing is the right direction. It may help, but, minimally. This is just part of a continuous movement the US employs. Promote, market, and advertise to death; get the masses to become regular consumers/adapt and then say it's wrong, unhealthy, etc., plus tax it for their benefit and many times to cover their own wrongdoings. Examples are: Tobacco, Alcohol, and Marijuana. A better way to combat obesity is to not allow corporations to merge or buy out the market competition and then turn 'real' food into processed food. Many times, that supposed 'more healthy' option that has an appealing label or marketing ploy claiming to be 'healthier' than the 'other' brand(s) are simply false. Often, claims of food being produced in consumer comfort areas such as farms are false; they are being mass produced in a factory.

It is time to stop allowing money, resources, and influence to put people and the environment at risk for financial benefits.
