Artists: Jon Bellion & Nia Imani

I've had the pleasure of being made aware of some new and interesting artists lately. These two artists are, Jon Bellion & Nia Imani. I believe that both are talented with lots of potential.

Mr. Bellion has been described as, "if Kanye West had a baby with Jason Mraz, Jon would definitely be the outcome." Which is a pretty fair description. Upon reviewing Jon, I found that we share a number of similarities. Including, work ethic and the fact that we wear many different hats. Jon hails out of Long Island, NY and his music is considered in the following genres: Hip-Hop/Rap, Pop, Alternative, & Soul. His sister Christianne, an accomplished singer herself, can be heard accompanying Jon on several of his tracks. A natural born leader, Jon earned All Conference honors and was captain of both his varsity basketball and volleyball teams. By the end of high school, Jon was investing all of his time and energy into his music and decided to attend the highly esteemed college of music and the performing arts, Five Towns College. By living on campus, Jon positioned himself in a “hot bed” of artists who shared the same passion and goals. Here, Jonathan grew as an artist and further developed his skills of producing and performing, thus establishing “Beautiful Mind Entertainment.”

Combining exceptional talent and fearless ambition, Jon Bellion is developing what he refers to as a “movement” with the launching of his project, “Beautiful Mind” that has no intentions of following the norm. “It’s not cool to be negative or stupid. We live in a time that needs enlightenment, especially with expression through music” he says. “We’re here for anyone with a beautiful mind.” His unique approach to music has afforded him the opportunity to showcase his sound at exclusive, high profile events such as the Presidential Inner Circle Pre-Grammy Party that took place in Hollywood, California. His song “Moped Girl” was also spotlighted on NBC radio’s “Tha Juke Joint” show.

Jon’s first mixtape, “Scattered Thoughts Vol. 1” was released in early 2011 via his Facebook page, and organically reached over 11,000 downloads.

The next artist is Nia Imani. She's only thirteen years old and coming out of Atlanta. Nia Imani has been singing nonstop since she could talk, and taught herself how to play the keyboard. At 6 she entered herself into a school talent show, and wowed the crowd with Alicia Keys “Falling”. She became known around Atlanta as the little girl with the big voice, winning contests and captivating audiences with songs like Jill Scott’s “Golden” and Jennifer Holiday’s “And I Am Telling You’” at venues around the city. Nia Imani is a gifted vocalist, with range, power, depth, and feeling beyond her years.

Nia Imani has performed in Madison Square Garden, SESAC Atlanta’s Artist Showcase, and at Ashford and Simpson’s Sugar Bar in New York, accompanied by Grammy nominated songwriter and artist Valerie Simpson. An accomplished actress, Nia Imani starred on Broadway for nearly a year, as Young Nala in the Tony-Award winning
musical “The Lion King”. She earned the role after auditioning and competing against thousands of children in Disney's nationwide search. As a result of her successful Broadway run, she was cast to star in Disney’s The Lion King Educational video, “Being A Lion Kid”, and later honored by Ebony Magazine as one of “Black Broadways’ Best.” Nia Imani can also be seen in the upcoming movie, “Joyful Noise” with Queen Latifah, Dolly Parton and Keke Palmer.

“She really does write all those songs herself.” The youngest girl ever to be signed as a songwriter with SESAC Atlanta, she has amazed countless producers, songwriters, and industry execs with her songwriting and production skills. She’s amassed an impressive catalog of songs in just a few short years. Nia Imani wrote and composed her first single, “Your Journey Begins”, and wrote and arranged the lyrics for her latest release, “Dance With Me”.

Nia Imani’s goal is to be successful in music, movies, and television. She is intelligent, motivated, hardworking, and focused. But the essence of Nia Imani is that she truly has a wonderful spirit. Her smile brightens up the room; she cares about others, and wants to help make the world a better place. She has her own charitable organization,
Every Child’s A Star Foundation, Inc, that supports arts and music education in schools, and speaks directly to children about positive peer mentoring, self-esteem, and social responsibility. “As the song goes, "I believe the children are our future," and Ms. Nia Imani is the future of entertainment. From Broadway to the radio, Nia Imani is doing it all before she even hits high school.” IAE Magazine. Nia Imani is the Voice of a New Generation.
