LaHood: We won't pay air traffic controllers to nap

**Opinion**

This may be a move in the right direction. However, I don't believe that an hour more (in off hours) is significant enough to properly address the issue. Also noted at: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2011/04/18/MNJA1J2D54.DTL

"Instead, the FAA's new rules will give controllers at least nine hours off between shifts, compared with eight now. That also was recommended by the working group, but a summary of their report notes the extra hour will probably result in only a 'slight improvement' on midnight shifts."

A 60 hour work week is a lot of hours to say the least. For many people, it is just too much. Maybe a cut in that would be better suited.... Also, maybe hiring more controllers would be a good idea.
