OAKLAND: Police surround Office Depot; Hostages may be inside (VIDEO)

Law enforcement officers surrounded an Office Depot store Friday night where a gunman was believed to be holding as many as three hostages.

Oakland police spokeswoman Holly Joshi said police for a call around 9:30 p.m. of a robbery in progress at the Home Depot located on Hollis and Mandela – on the border between Oakland and Emeryville.

“Several people have been able to make it out, but we believe there are others still inside,” Joshi told KTVU.

She could not confirm any other details involving the tense standoff.

Officers arriving on the scene, reportedly, saw an employee with their hands up, being held at gunpoint by a gunman.

A short time later, an employee ran from the building and told police that as many as three people were being held as hostages.
