**Opinion**
A once officer of the law, Johannes Mehserle, was caught on video wrongfully shooting a man that was subdued face first on the ground without any weapons or urgency in matter (while a Bay Area Rapid Transportation Police Officer). This video surfaced all over the internet and can be viewed below:
Now for this inexcusable crime from a trained officer of the law, the result was an insulting two year sentence, in which, he has done less than a year of, if the pending release is granted. Due to this, The Coalition for Justice for Oscar Grant will hold events in support of Oscar Grant. Sunday, June 12th, at 3 pm there will be a gathering at Oscar Grant Station (Fruitvale BART, Oakland, CA). Then, at 5 pm, there will be a a gathering on 14th & Broadway, Oakland, CA. Further events are slated for the weekend, including a 4 p.m. "emergency town hall meeting" with family and supporters from Oakland at the Southern California Library, 6120 S. Vermont. Ave., in Los Angeles. At 8:30 a.m. Monday, supporters will be at the final court hearing at Los Angeles Superior Court, 210 W. Temple St.
The group will then walk to the nearby U.S. Department of Justice offices to "demand federal action," said Jubilee Shine, an activist with the Los Angeles Coalition for Justice for Oscar Grant.
I would think that with such a violent crime that the family would be entitled to voice their concerns and/or opinions to the court prior to a release of Mehserle. However, for some odd reason(s), that may not be true, as noted: "Johnson said he worries that Mehserle will be allowed out of jail without attending a final court hearing. "We are disappointed," he said, adding that the family also has not gotten firm information about the exact time of the release". Also, I would think that it's a right of the family to know the exact date of release. Sadly, both appear to not be the case.
It must be nice that an officer of the law can wrongfully commit murder then do less than a year for it (sarcasm). I believe they made him do some jail time due to the public outcry and then hoped that in time (a small amount) the public would forget about the injustice that took place. Let's not let that occur. Let's not allow them to believe that people have forgotten such a tragedy and that justice was NOT served.

Thank you for your kind read and I hope that you can support.
