First Sit-In Against the Sit Law

Monday, July 9th @ 2:30pm at Berkeley City Hall (2180 Milvia St., 1st Fl., Berkeley, CA 94704

What is wrong with the Sit-Lie Ordinance?

- Criminalizes and violates the rights of poor/homeless people

- Costs $26/K just to put on ballot plus hundreds of thousands of dollars to enforce

- Does not address the issue of homelessness

- Clogs up courts and prisons

- Similar ordinances in San Francisco and Santa Cruz have been ineffective

- Creates a snowball effect for the financially unfortunate that benefits the elite and capitalists

- Diverts police attention from more serious crimes

What are the alternatives?

- Engage the financially unfortunate in programs/activities of interest/prosperity

- Encourage program(s) where the City of Berkeley and businesses work together with the financially unfortunate to better all three of their positions

- Berkeley City Council work towards housing the homeless rather than working to increase revenue and decrease affordable housing
